Frequently Asked Questions
1. How can I tell if I need a new mattress? There are many symptoms which indicate the need for a new mattress. Do you wake up feeling unrested or achy? Do you roll to the middle or edges of your bed? Do you sleep better at hotels or on your couch than you do in your bed? If you answer yes to any of these questions, you should probably be looking for a new mattress. Back to Top2. How long should a mattress set last?Depending on the quality, a mattress or boxspring can last anywhere from a few months to more than 20 years. The materials used primarily determine a mattress sets useful life, but there are other factors which can have an impact as well. Is the bed used everyday or in a guest room? Do you rotate it regularly and use a mattress pad to protect the fabric and foam layers? The amount of usage, and proper care of a mattress will prolong the life of a mattress. Back to Top3. How do I know which mattress type is right for me?At LEBEDA we believe you should sleep on the firmest sleep surface that is comfortable to you. With so many styles to choose from, its not as simple as soft, firm, and extra-firm. What feels firm to you may not be firm to your neighbor. Take some time, go into the store, lay down and try them out. Back to Top4. Is there more benefit to having a firm mattress over a soft one?Generally, a firmer mattress will provide you with more support. Whether you are 50 pounds or 500 pounds, most of your body weight is concentrated in the middle 1/3 of your body, between your shoulders and hips. A softer mattress allows the heaviest parts of your body to sink, pulling your spine into an unnatural position. A firm mattress, or a mattress with extra support in the middle third will help prevent this irregular curvature. The additional support provided by a firmer mattress at night affects your posture all throughout the day. Back to Top5. What sheets do you buy for a Pillowtop mattress? There are special sheets called High Profile or Deep Pocket sheets. Depending on the brand, they will typically fit 12" to 18" thick mattresses. You can find them in most department stores. Back to Top6. How do I care for my mattress? You should always use a mattress pad or mattress protector. These will protect your mattress from body oils, perspiration and common spills. Do not rely solely on fabric protection to care for your mattress. This can help but does not replace a mattress pad. Also your mattress should be rotated (or flipped if applicable) periodically. Most manufacturers recommend your mattress be turned once per month for the first three months and every three months thereafter. In general, pillowtop mattresses and mattresses with thick foam layers should be turned once a month. This helps your mattress to wear evenly and give long term comfort. Back to Top7. What can I do with my old mattress? When you purchase a mattress at LEBEDA we will dispose of your old mattress at no extra charge! Back to Top8. What should I look for when purchasing a mattress set?Look for the facts, not the hype. It’s important to find out what you are actually purchasing. When you walk into a showroom you’ll see many beautiful mattresses. Unfortunately the color and look of a mattress tells you nothing about the quality. Many companies build all their mattresses using the same basic design and just add more foam as you move up the line. This provides a softer feel to their upper line beds but does nothing to increase the durability or life of the mattress. Take some time to ask about the materials used. Back to Top9. Do I really need to buy a new boxspring too?Yes, in most situations. Boxsprings wear over time and cause much of the wear associated with mattresses. Rolling towards the middle or edge of the bed is often a symptom of a worn boxspring. Once the boxspring wears out, the mattress will wear in the same manner and you will ruin your mattress. You can test your boxspring yourself. Take the mattress off your boxspring and lay directly on the boxspring. If the surface feels uneven or you roll towards the middle, then you know you need a new boxspring. Back to Top10. How many coils should my new mattress have?Coil systems with a large coil count, and those with a smaller coil count can provide similar levels of support and longevity. Ordinarily, fewer coils provide a softer feel due to more turns per coil, but more coils provide a more even sleep surface. You should not base your bed purchase on the coil count, but rather on the feel and support a mattress gives you when you lie on it. The most important thing to remember is: the materials above the coil system are what really determine the mattresses comfort and durability. Back to Top11. Will a new mattress eliminate back pain?A new mattress will provide better support for your body (which may decrease back pain), but there are a number of other factors which may affect you. Age, weight, working conditions, previous injuries, and worn out mattresses are just a few of the common causes of back pain. Mattresses wear over time, causing uneven and typically uncomfortable sleep surfaces. Changing sleep positions (tossing and turning) throughout the night is a leading cause of sleep-related back pain in adults. A supportive new mattress provides an even, comfortable sleep surface which minimizes tossing and turning, and therefore decreases some types of back pain. Back to Top12. How can I eliminate feeling my partner’s motion in the bed.You can never totally eliminate motion in any bed…however, it can be greatly reduced by the type of boxspring you put under your mattress. A firm boxspring will reduce the amount of motion you feel when your partner tosses or turns. There are two types of mattresses that will help to reduce motion transfer as well. Those that use an individually pocketed coil design and all foam mattresses. These beds have unique feel properties that people tend to either love or hate. The best way to determine what is right for you is to come into a Lebeda showroom and try out a variety of mattresses. Back to Top13. When I wake up in the morning, I can see where I have been laying at night. Is there something wrong with my mattress? In most cases… No. If you lay in the same spot night after night you are likely to get impressions. The foam layers in a mattress compress over time, just like your sofa cushions - there is no way around that. When purchasing a mattress, look for higher quality foams, such as high resiliency foam or all natural latex rubber. High density foams like these will last longer, hold their shape better, and are less likely to develop impressions. Back to Top14. Is there a particular kind of mattress that is right for children?Children should always sleep on a supportive mattress. Their bodies require good support for proper spinal alignment as they grow. A solid foundation now will help them in the future. Back to Top15. Can't I just give my kids my old mattress? The decision to give your old mattress to your kids depends on the condition of that mattress. If the mattress is clean and still supportive, it may be alright to allow them to use it. Keep in mind that you are getting rid of it for a reason - if your old mattress is not supportive enough for you, it's probably not supportive enough for your children. Back to Top |
